When can I see Darkrai?
New Moon Day (NMD) is a monthly 3-day event where Darkrai can appear as a bonus spawn during your first sleep session each day. If you don't see it one day, it will be more likely to appear the next. You can expect to see about 1 Darkrai per NMD, but it is possible to see more. Darkrai does not spawn outside of this event.
While NMD does also boost shiny rate (exact rate unknown), Darkrai cannot be shiny.
How does Darkrai work?
Darkrai is an All specialty Pokemon. It finds 2 berries (like a berrymon) and more ings (like an ingmon) with each help and can store 2 skill procs (like a skillmon). It costs 25 pips but gets 3 free pips each time you see it.
Your first catch will get you the Pokemon. It'll be a blank slate apart from Sausage as its first ing.
Subsequent catches will get you a Eureka Seed. This allows you to choose either an ing slot or a subskill slot to roll. You will be given a random ing out of a pool or a random subskill in that slot, respectively.
Is Darkrai good?
The following content contains subjective advice or recommendations. Please take it into consideration and make your own decisions based on your playstyle and goals.
Darkrai is a very good strengthmon when built properly. Depending on your ability to mitigate the energy loss from its skill, it has the potential to be a generalist strengthmon that matches many on-map berrymon. On Snowdrop, where Dark is a favored type, it is the strongest strengthmon.
While it has a good selection of ing options, its production is too low to be ran as an ingmon. Instead, it can be used for supplemental ings for a recipe, much like a berrymon can.
Should I catch Darkrai?
No*.
Catching just one is very expensive. Making that one good requires catching many more and hoping you get lucky with rolls. While it has the potential to very strong, this cost and uncertainty means it shouldn't be pursued unless you are a whale or a late game player with fewer other uses for your biscuits.
*Let Darkrai accumulate free pips and, when you see your 8th one and it has only one pip remaining, feed it one Poke Biscuit to finish it off. If there are absolutely no other priority catches for you, you can feed it your Bonus Biscuit.
How should I use Eureka Seeds?
- Roll each of the first 3 subskill slots (lv. 10, 25, 50) once.
- Reroll each of these subskill slots until you get any 3 of Berry Finding S, Helping Bonus, Helping Speed M or Skill Trigger M. The S versions of the last two can be upgraded with subseeds later.
- Roll each of the two empty ing slots (lv. 30, 60) once.
- Reroll each ing slot until you have a list that works well for you.
- Roll the 4th subskill slot (lv .75) until you get one of the above subskills.
- Subseed any S versions to M.
