Eeveelution Guide

Subjective Info

The following content contains subjective advice or recommendations. Please take it into consideration and make your own decisions based on your playstyle and goals.

Intro

When evaluating Eevees and considering what to evolve them into, we must first come to an understanding of what the various eeveelutions do and how they play into the metagame before we should even discuss stats.

Eevee and all of its eeveelutions are skill specialists, each with a different main skill (Flareon/Glaceon share one). Skill specialists heavily rely on activating their main skill to provide value to the team, meaning if the main skill they have is not particularly good/useful to your account, the eeveelution ends up not being a wise investment either.

In broad strokes, eeveelutions are mostly not that meta viable, as they have many alternatives that match or beat them at their niche. The strongest pro for eeveelutions is that Eevees are common so that you get a lot of candy for them and you can pick a corresponding eeveelution that best matches the stats you rolled. If you are deciding to go with an eeveelution because you particularly want one, I recommend hunting one with the stats below.

Below you'll see an evaluation on where each of the eeveelutions stand in the meta, and viable stat builds for each one.

Viable Options

These are the eeveelutions with the most meta relevance. Any of these are good options for an Eevee that meets their standards. Your choice should be based on what would benefit you the most given your box, progress in the game, and playstyle.

Espeon

  • Skill: Charge Strength M
  • Meta Relevance:
    • Espeon can provide an early game boost without the need for levels at the cost of wanting to be max main skill level. This gives you some leeway when looking for your first couple BFS berry mon as it comes fully built with a couple main skill seeds. On-island BFS berry mons eventually beat Espeon at higher levels (50+) but having BFS on your Espeon extends the longevity of its usefulness
    • On Lapis, it is one of the strongest strength mons for the map, and synergizes with Cresselia teams since it is Psychic type.
  • Requirements:

Vaporeon

  • Skill: Ingredient Magnet S

  • Meta Relevance

    • When you don't have good ing coverage, you can get good mileage out of fishing for ings and cooking accordingly.
    • When your ing coverage improves, you can still use it but it does become more difficult to find it a spot on the team.
    • As Slowpoke Tails lack a good ingmon currently, Ing Mag is the best way to stockpile them for use as filler in lategame cooking.
  • Requirements:

    • Preferably 2 triggers with 1 speed or STM with 2 speeds.
    • SLUM is nice on this mon in comparison to other eeveelutions due to it being more of an early game mon.

    Sylveon

  • Skill: Energy for Everyone S

  • Meta Relevance:

    • A healer is the most important mon in the game but Sylveon is tied for the worst alongside Wigglytuff. While it has slightly better stats than Wigglytuff (procs 0.5 times more per day), it comes at the cost of an extra main seed since Pokemon gain a main skill level upon evolution and Wiggly is a 3-stage evolution while Sylveon is a 2-stage evolution.
    • An early game healer can be useful since it helps you be pickier on your endgame healer but keep in mind that main seeds are expensive resources so be wary when investing in temporary skill mons.
  • Requirements: 5 procs/day

    • Prefers 2 triggers with 1 speed or STM + 2 speeds.
    • HB is heavily preferred on Sylveon

Flareon/Glaceon

  • Skill: Cooking Power Up-S

  • Meta Relevance:

    • Potmon are useful once you have a decent repertoire of invested ingredient mons and you're able to start cooking larger meals.
    • Magnezone is a better pot mon due to having a higher proc rate and having an extra free main skill level being a 3-stage evolution.
  • Requirements: 6 procs/day

    • Preferably 2 triggers with 1 speed or STM with 2 speeds
    • Pot mons typically want to proc once per meal window so having as many triggers as possible is the goal here. When you get around to the EX islands, you will notice how important having as many triggers as possible is for a pot mon

    Niche Options

These are the eeveelutions with niche meta relevance. They have specific use cases that may not be useful to the general populace.

Jolteon

  • Skill: Extra Helpful S
  • Meta Relevance:
    • It can be used on a Raikou team to provide an additional species for its skill.
    • It is inferior to Raichu and Ampharos for this role, being similar to Halloween Pikachu in terms of strength.
  • Requirements: BFS with speed or triggers with speed

Unviable Options

Umbreon

  • Skill: Moonlight (Charge Energy S)
  • Meta Relevance:
    • None.
    • Could potentially see use on a Darkrai team as the healer, very low value
  • Requirements: See Sylveon

Leafeon

  • Skill: Energizing Cheer S
  • Meta Relevance:
    • None.
  • Requirements: See Sylveon

Special Cases

Santa Hat Eevee

  • Skill: Dream Shard Magnet S
  • Meta Relevance:
    • The best normal berry mon not counting ribbons or sneaky snacking (Vigoroth beats it with ribbons, Raticate beats it when sneaky snacking)
  • Requirements: BFS with speeds

Witch Hat Eevee

  • Skill: Ingredient Magnet S
    • A little stronger than Eevee but not better than Vaporeon. It's only niche is in its ing list, where it's capable of providing a small number of pumpkins
